For over 75 years English Lowther Loudspeakers in Sidcup, Kent, U.K. has delighted discerning music lovers and audiophiles worldwide with the thrilling sound that Lowther- Voigt developed all those years ago. The genius Paul Voigt invented and patented the first twin- cone wide- range high fidelity loudspeaker drive unit and incorporated it to back- load an internal folded bass horn.

The sound this combination produced was a revelation in those early days of "pioneering" high fidelity..... and still is today!

Even back in the 1930's Voigt noted that his loudspeaker had "life"!

LOWTHER MANUFACTURES THE MOST EFFICIENT "FULL-RANGE" DRIVE UNITS IN THE WORLD.

Lowther have developed and refined Voigt's original design to its present stage of perfection. The state- of- the- art Rare Earth Magnet Technology is much more powerful than any conventional magnet.

The speech coils are Lowther's own "Hi-Ferric" system and, coupled to these all-powerful magnet assemblies, allow the diaphragms to reach acceleration speeds well beyond the capabilities of any conventional system.

The complexity of manufacturing the labyrinthine enclosure, which form the bass horn, is well known and many manufacturers over the years have turned their attention to producing cheaper bass reflex "box" designs and multi speaker systems. There are numerous versions of bass reflex designs available today and the quality of the sound ultimately depends on the matching of drive units used and the crossover circuits selected, with each speaker covering its chosen frequency range.

The Hornet enclosure uses one only wide range Lowther drive unit thus avoiding the crossover circuits and overlaps that multi speaker designs cannot avoid. The benefits of "single source" loudspeakers are many and, in the case of the Hornet enclosure, the drive unit is mounted on the baffle to avoid refraction/reflection of the sound.

Bass horns are not easy or cheap to manufacture and so Lowther in Australia set out to develop methods of solving this obstacle to enable lovers of music and audiophiles experience the joy of listening to realistic sound reproduction!

These fine horn enclosures are assembled in Adelaide, South Australia, by specialist craftsmen who take pride in their work.
